Blue Square Bet Premier side Kettering Town are, like several other clubs of their stature, flirting with a winding-up order at present after several months of financial hoo-doo that has seen them fighting relegation, unable to pay their players and forced to leave former home Rockingham Road and take up residency in former rivals Rushden & Diamonds’ grave (the Diamonds went under last summer) currently playing their home games, as they do, at Rushden’s old Nene Park ground.

To hopefully raise a few quid, Kettering have signed a special one-match sponsorship deal with Betfair and, to mark the occasion, will be sporting a replica of the kit the club wore in 1976 (i.e, the first British strip ever to feature a sponsor’s logo across the front – and what a belter it was too!) for their game against Stockport County at the weekend – complete with nad-crushingly tiny shorts!

With the HMRC winding-up hearing scheduled for the following Monday, Saturday’s game will see season-ticket holders offered a discount to attend the match for just £1 (the cost of entry in 1976) and fans can then choose to pocket the difference or donate it back to the club to help them through the mire.

How awesome is that? Pretty damn awesome.

Kettering Town's game tonight, away to Leamington, has been postponed as they can only get 6 players.

It's looking like curtains for them in next few days. :(

Could this be a good trivia question name a ground that has helped cause the financial demise of two football clubs.

Nene Park looks likely to be the ex home of both Rushden & Diamonds and Kettering Town.

They like many others shot themselves in the foot trying to live the dream all you need to know about how badly that club has been run down the years is that they appointed Paul Gascoigne as manager.

You'll be kicking yourself drunk one Wednesday night at about 10:30 when you can't remember the ground name.
