Dustin Ybarra has been cast as Rodney in the US version of Only Fools and Horses.

The ABC comedy show, which is based on the format of the British sitcom first launched in 1981, will follow brothers Del Boy and Rodney and their ageing grandfather as they devise get-rich-quick schemes.

According to Deadline, Ybarra has been offered the part and will now work alongside writers Steven Cragg and Brian Bradley and executive producer Jeff Golenberg.

His previous roles include We Bought a Zoo and Balls to the Wall.

It was recently reported that John Leguizamo will take the role of Del Boy in Only Fools and Horses.

Leguizamo is best known for starring in films such as Carlito's Way, Moulin Rouge and Romeo and Juliet.

I caught about 20 minutes of the US version of Shameless the other day it's nothing like the English version.

I imagine the american version of this will be totally different and basically will be a show within it's own rights but it seems stupid to call it only fools and horses.

Take for example the Italian Job remake in it's own right it isn't that bad a film but it is so far from the original that you wonder why they even bothered calling it the italian job.

Yeah I heard that as well they just couldn't work out how to sell Basel to the American audience.

I can see how some shows can crossover take the American version of the Office it's a good concept just adjusted for the American audience and apart from the first series has gone on to become a show in it's own right.

Some shows just don't crossover and I don't see why they feel the need to use the title of the show to sell it as it's just going to get slammed by all critics.

Do Americans even know what Only Fools and Horses is?

I can't speak for all Americans but I have never heard of only fools and horses. But I was only 1 year old in 1981 so that may have something to do with it

It's an absolute classic over here James. I was born in 87 but I've probably seen every episode about 5 times.

Fair enough I'll have to see if I can find it somewhere as check it out.

I'm not sure why they bother to keep the names either it being they don't advertise the shows as remakes anyway. I didn't know "Shameless" was a British show until reading it here. If I had to guess though I would follow the money and say it probably has to do something with the original creators and them continuing to get paid when the show moves to a different country

I'm not sure how it works but I would guess that somehow the format of the show is copyrighted more than likely the characters.

The show is arguably the most popular show ever created in the UK in terms of it's appeal to the the masses I've never met anyone who doesn't like Only Fools and Horses but I just don't see how they can sell it to an American audience without creating a totally different show like they've done with Shameless.

They actually brought this show up on a podcast I listen to. I guess the Stevenage fans were singing the theme song to good ol 'Arry during the FA cup match

Never got people's obsession with the program myself. It's alright but nothing special. Fawlty Towers is much funnier imo.

I'm definitely in the opposite camp. Only fools and horses wins hands down for me.

Christopher Lloyd has joined the cast of the Only Fools and Horses US remake.

The Back to the Future star will play the grandfather of Del (John Leguizamo) and Rodney (Dustin Ybarra), according to Deadline.

Like the original UK comedy, the potential ABC series will follow the trio as they concoct get-rich-quick schemes in their attempts to become millionaires.

Happy Endings actor BJ Bales has also been cast as Trigger, who has been reinvented as a 'ghetto-talking con man' and Del and Rodney's 'perpetual enemy'

In the BBC's Only Fools and Horses - which ran from 1981 to 2003 - the dim-witted Trigger was played by Roger Lloyd-Pack, while Del and Rodney's granddad was portrayed by Lennard Pearce, until the actor's death in 1984.

David Jason, who played Del in the original, recently suggested that the remake will struggle, arguing that the show's concept won't "travel across the pond".

Happy Endings writers Steven Cragg and Brian Bradley have adapted Only Fools and Horses for US television

surely the trotters "enemy" was Boycey not Trigger who was just the local idiot in the pub that most people can relate to someone they know

Daft as a brush, completly harmless but you couldn't hate him.

As for that Stewart Lee thing above does he actually like anything other than the sound of his own voice?

I've decided this might be a brilliant plan. American networks will keep buying up your classic tv shows, the sh!t all over them. Hopefully this will make Piers Morgan angry and he'll p!ss off back to London.
