What are your opinions on it? I'm starting to find the whole thing incredibly tedious now, seriously considering permanently deleting my account.

It's the same old sh*t every day, attention wh*res who feel the need to express every damn moment of their lives. Just a few examples of statusses I've seen today:

"The sun is out, what a lovely day!"
"Person X had a great time last night, love you all!"
"Person Y is looking forward to tonight"
"Person Z is so bored"
"Now I know who my real friends are" - followed by loads of sympathy messages.
"Person X is taking a cr@p and loving it!!!111!"

Okay so the last one was made up, but you get my point. Also the number of people who feel the need to advertise where they are and what they're doing, instead of actually enjoying whatever they're doing. 'Kinel. And must you upload 200 photos of yourself in the same pose? Most pointless thing ever.

Yes it has it's advantages, but it has completely wiped out and rendered the act of actually going out and meeting people obsolete. Now you just write on people's walls. You're seen as some sort of social freak if you don't have an account. It also wastes a massive proportion of people's time when that time could be used much more productively.

Give me Lamebook any day. :D

Would be interesting to see what those with and without accounts think of it.

I rarely go on mine, does my head in.. if ever I do a status update it's via Twitter and usually about football.

My main reason for using it is to probably oggle at photographs of tarted up girls.

"Remind yourself why you've never arranged a school reunion by logging onto Facebook."

Latest update.

Couldn't of put it better myself Riq, there's just something about it that i've always hated, but it's hypocritical, as i've got an account.

For me, It's a good thing to keep in touch with my mates from school/college who are all off doing different things nowadays. Plus It's sh*t-hot for perving.

I use my account occasionally, and probably on average update my status about every 6 weeks. I agree with SoV though, it is good for perving.

I use it on quite a regular basis.

Would go to sleep but I want to see the end of this tennis match. Azarenka and Cibulkova are having an excellent match. Swings and Roundabouts!

Two week break from drinking? Sounds like foolishness?

Did Vettel just make it clear he wouldn't of let Webber pass if he couldn't win the championship?

Are my last 3 status updates...

It helps to keep in touch with friends who are all over the place and you can all jump in on the same discussion. Event invitations and group discussions it's useful for as well....And obviously for perving!

My last three statuses:

Alex Gibson:
UEFA - Yet another display of how useless and pathetic football's governing bodies are. T*ssers.
March 16 at 4:18pm

Alex Gibson
Waiting for the Gooner excuses... Out of 3 cups in 2 weeks; Oh dear...
March 12 at 7:40pm

Alex Gibson
Pathetic.
February 19 at 7:16pm (In reference to United's performance V Crawley IIRC)

I've got an account. Don't use it becasue it irritates me so much. It's not like I've even accepted a load of friends, I haven't got colleagues, old school friends etc. Basically If I didn't go on a all weekend bender with you in the 90's you aren't getting accepted. So these are proper firends and they irritate me. My last update must have been about christmas time.

Spot on Riq

It's good to find friends that you've lost touch with, I also got back in contact with a family I stayed with in America when I was a kid. But some of the guff people talk about on it is nonsense. The girl I work with is on it all the time, some of the shiote she writes on her page is embarrassing.

I'd probably go on it once a month.

I use it to keep in touch with mates who are travelling and to post pictures from holidays and things like that.

I think I update my status about 3 times a year normally to annoy my arsenal supporting mates after we've beaten them again.

Don't get me wrong, some of the status updates are funny, original and relevant. It's the attention-seeking ones I can't stand. Or those who think they're the second coming of Aristotle plagiarising quotes from givemeawesomequotessopeoplethinkihavemorethanonebraincell.com. It's the clichéd cr@p that gets to me. A recent one: "Person X is chillin with the boyz in my new Audi". Who the hell cares you absolute chavtard? Save me.

Also the people who have over 1000+ 'friends' on Facebook are automatically retards in my book. Just what are they trying to prove? I have regular friend culls to detach myself from those I couldn't give two sh*ts about.

Apparently 'Facebook' is also one of the most commonly cited reasons for divorce in the US.

And those who cite it's good for 'perving', surely there are better sites around. :p

It does have some positives like have been mentioned such as keeping in touch with people, but some of the people that use it (around 80%) post the most mundane sh*te ever. Over half of my friends are hidden from my newsfeed for that precise reason.

The other day this person got into a huff with me because I didn't receive her message. I replied I didn't get any messages, to which she responded 'I sent you it on Facebook'.

What's wrong with phones thesedays?

Anyway, rant over. I should be revising for my exam tomorrow.

....a painful demonstration of society's overwhelming obsession with being 'listened to', feel liked, important, celebrity, making the world listen to you etc.

it's a global platform for you to demonstrate your own brand of idiocy

Not for perving on girls you know and fancy. Unless you happen to know many models / porn stars. Personally I only know 1 glamour model.

Beat me too it.

Like Spawny says, for looking at the local fitties you probably wouldn't have a chance with. For example; there was a girl from sixth form in an exam of mine who was based at the other campus, never seen her before but she was fit, as i was with my missus i didn't wanna risk getting caught looking so i checked her seat number, checked her name on the seating plan and facebooked it. Simple.

Edit: And i sit next to Maddison Welch's younger brother in one of my lectures at Uni.

Worth it if she's truly fit though.

I signed up about 2 weeks ago, to keep in touch with a college re-union thing going on in July - it's easier to get info all on one place on FB. Soon as that's over, I'll be deleting my account probably.

I'm probably too old for it really. And agree with Riq - have some of these people really got 1,000 "friends"? No, they patently haven't and need to go out and meet some real people.

When do you get to the point that you need to get out more?
