Bale signs new four-year contract
Tottenham winger Gareth Bale has signed a new contract that will keep him at White Hart Lane until 2014.
The 20-year-old Wales international has been at the club since joining three years ago from Southampton.

News of his new deal comes after a string of superb displays in the last few months that were instrumental in helping Spurs seal Champions League qualification.

Developed really well under Redknapp. At one point during the season I thought he'd be on his bike..

Barcelona sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta last night confirmed the Spanish club's interest in Gareth Bale.

Tottenham star Bale, 21, is attracting interest from Europe's top clubs including Barca, Inter Milan and Manchester United and his stunning hat trick in the San Siro last month has enhanced his reputation.

But Barcelona have now gone public that they are watching developments which will be a major concern to Tottenham as they battle to hold onto their prize asset.

Zubizarreta, talking on COM radio, said: "He is an interesting footballer with a different style which could be positive for La Liga. But I need to make it clear I have not spoken to anyone."

However, the fact that one of Barcelona's power makers is talking openly about Bale may infuriate Tottenham after the Spanish club's very public courting of Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas last summer.

Bale, who was nearly offloaded to Championship club Nottingham Forest in January, has become one of the hottest properties in Europe.

There will be no shortage of takers even though Bale only signed a new five year contract in May 2010 after finally coming good at Spurs in the second half of last season.

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has insisted Bale is not for sale but Inter put him on their hit-list after his hat trick in the Champions League.

Versatile Bale, who can play left wing or left midfield, joined Tottenham from Southampton for £5m in 2007 but Tottenham can now expect to make a huge profit if they decide to sell.

Headline from The Daily Mirror: 'Call Me RonadDAI - Bale, the boyo who would be king, dreams of being as good as Cristiano.'

Actual quotes from Gareth Bale: "Obviously teams are trying to stop me in a way, and obviously I've got to think of other ways to get past them. I'm going to have to keep learning in training and in games, and try things and hopefully improve as a player which will allow me to do that. If you look at all the world-class players these days, the likes of Ronaldo, teams double up on him all the time and he still finds a way.

The Sun went with a similar thing along the lines of Bale wants to be new Ronaldo.

Bale isn't a Ronaldo style player not sure who you could compare him to he's like Maicon but a winger really not all flicks and skills but at times an unstoppable force going forward.

Bale reminds me of kaka in his prime but doing it on the wing vs middle. Just 3-4 years ago kaka would just run through a team - no tricks, just power, pace and close control.

The Kaka Glide

He almost effortlessly seemed to go past a teams entire midfield/defence which was rather annoying if you're not an AC Milan fan

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has insisted Gareth Bale is not for sale - and says a bid of £30million wouldn't be enough to prise him away even if he were.

The 21-year-old is the man of the moment following an outstanding performance against Inter Milan in the Champions League on Tuesday night which saw his side earn a 3-1 victory.

Indeed, the Serie A champions will no doubt be relieved to see the back of the Welshman after he netted a remarkable hat-trick in the reverse fixture.

Bale's recent hot streak will have turned the heads of Europe's top clubs, with speculation mounting that big-money bids could some come flying in for the former Southampton youngster.

However, Redknapp has reaffirmed the fact that he is not for sale and claims if Bale were to go, it would be for a lot more than £30million

"They wouldn't buy him for that, that's for sure," he told Sky Sports.

"If he had a value, if we wanted to sell him, his value would be way in excess of that sort of figure.

"He really is an amazing young player. We wouldn't even entertain a bid. The chairman has said he's not for sale and that's good enough.

"We don't want to sell him and we're looking to build a team at Tottenham. We're a club that's going places - we've got a new training ground coming, change of stadium, the whole thing is going forward.

"Daniel (Levy) has said on many occasions we're not looking to sell our best players now.

"We're looking to build a team and if you build a team you've got to hang onto the Gareth Bales of this world."

Bale terrorised Inter right-back Maicon at White Hart Lane, having tormented him at the San Siro two weeks previously.

Redknapp believes the Brazil international is an excellent player, but reckons he was "destroyed" on the night.

"I think we saw in the first game he's playing against a right-back who, if you were picking your world XI before we played them, would have been it," he added.

"He was voted European defender of the year last year and no disrespect to him, he's obviously a good player, but Gareth absolutely destroyed him.

"To do that against someone as highly rated as Maicon just shows you what a performance he put in.

"It must have been tough for him, I don't think he's ever suffered like that before.

"There's not too many widemen around nowadays and maybe they (full-backs) don't get tested enough. As a right-back he was tested to the full in the last two games and proved that he is vulnerable defensively."

On incoming transfer possibilities, Redknapp remarked: "It's difficult to bring players into that squad because there's so many good players there.

"There are so many good players not getting into the team at the moment that deserve to play. People like Niko Kranjcar, Robbie Keane, (Roman) Pavlyuchenko, all these people. Jermaine Jenas started on the bench last night with Wilson Palacios.

"If you're going to bring anybody they've got to be better than what you've got and unless they're top, top drawer, it's not a case of bringing average players in."

Bale 'set for £20m jackpot'
Gareth Bale could stand to make as much as £20 million in endorsements and image rights over the next five years.
That is the view of renowned publicist Max Clifford - who also gave Tottenham fans a boost by backing manager Harry Redknapp as the ideal mentor to help the Welsh youngster fulfil his earning potential.

"It's the magic formula," Clifford told PA Sport as Bale's stock rose once more following a second stellar Champions League performance against Inter Milan.

"He's young, he's British, he's a nice-looking lad, he's got a lovely attitude.

"With Harry Redknapp keeping a very careful eye on him, he could make £10m, £20m, something like that, over the next five years from image rights, endorsements, things like that."

If he keeps doing things like that on a regular basis he could make a tonne of cash from endorsements he needs spurs to stay in the ECL though too make that sort of money.

If he was too get a big money move or at spurs establish himself as one of the worlds top players playing for spurs then it can help. His only problem will be in the fact that unless Wales make it to a big tournament where he can make an impact the big brands will always look to the established names to Market there products.
