Bjorgolfur Gudmundsson has moved a step closer to selling West Ham after receiving several provisional offers.

The owner has signed non-disclosure agreements with "five to 10 parties".

This means the potential buyers will be given detailed information on the club that they cannot reveal to anyone else.

Vice chairman Asgeir Fridgeirsson told BBC Sport: "This is part of the ongoing process of Mr Gudmundsson reviewing his assets. But he does not need to sell West Ham and still might not do."

Fridgeirsson said West Ham were talking to potential buyers in order to establish the club's market value.

Once this is done, Gudmundsson will decide whether or not to sell, Fridgeirsson added.

The agreements fall short of due diligence, which would give prospective buyers full access to the club's accounts.

Several of the interested parties have put in opening bids for West Ham but these have fallen well short of the amount Gudmundsson would want.

According to court documents in Iceland filed by his holding company, Hansa, the 67-year-old values West Ham at £250m. No binding offers have yet been made for the club.

Hansa has gone into voluntary liquidation and Gudmundsson is in talks with the Icelandic government and banks about how to restructure his assets, including West Ham.

Gudmundsson's business empire has suffered a series of setbacks in recent months.

Landsbanki, the Icelandic bank in which he was the biggest shareholder, went into receivership in October.

Then Samson Holdings, the holding company for shares in Landsbanki, filed for bankruptcy last month.

West Ham's shirt sponsor, travel company XL, had gone bust a month earlier and it later emerged that Gudmundsson had been the guarantor of a £163m loan given to the company.

And the Hammers could yet be liable to pay Sheffield United £30m in compensation after an independent tribunal ruled in favour of the Yorkshire club in the Carlos Tevez affair.

Gudmundsson bought West Ham for £85m in November 2006 and has invested a further £30m in the club since then.

If he gets £250m that's quite a return.

West Ham are believed to have held talks with more than five potential new owners ahead of a crucial court date in Iceland on Friday when the club’s holding company,
Hansa, could be put into insolvency.

Image
Extension: Gudmundsson

Owner Bjorgolfur Gudmundsson will ask for a three-month extension while he prepares a series of reports about how he plans to restructure his companies.

Gudmundsson will argue that the value of Hansa’s assets — of which West Ham are a key component — is above the claims of the creditors.

No decision is expected from the court until next week and club sources insist any ruling will not affect the sale although negotiations with interested parties are believed to have been stepped up in recent weeks.

Although Gudmundsson has been hit by the economic downturn, the Hammers’ fortunes on the pitch look healthy ahead of the trip to Wigan tonight.

The form of midfielder Scott Parker remains one of the key reasons for the club’s success and Gianfranco Zola believes he could soon be picked for England.

The Hammers boss said: 'I think he can get a place in the international team.'

Mark Noble should come back tonight to replace the injured Valon Behrami.

BIRMINGHAM owners David Gold and David Sullivan will mount a bid to buy West Ham if Carson Yeung's £70m St Andrew's takeover goes through.

It would complete a lifelong dream for Gold in particular, who was born a stone's throw from Upton Park and was a youth player with the club.

A Birmingham source revealed: "There would be no better time to move given the club's parlous financial situation.

"The two Davids would love to own the club outright. But if that isn't possible, there may be an opportunity for them to become big investors."

The pair held a 29.9 per cent shareholding in the Hammers during the 80s.

Yeung must prove his Brum buy-out is serious by putting down a £1m non-returnable deposit.

Birmingham's board are willing to sell but do not want the situation to drag on as it did two years ago.

LONDON (AP)—West Ham is selling lingerie after singer Katy Perry wore a top made out of three jerseys at this month’s MTV Europe Music Awards.

The American singer wore a claret-and-blue corset with the Premier League club’s badges on the chest at the Nov. 5 show in Berlin as a tribute to her boyfriend, British comedian and Hammers fan Russell Brand.

West Ham says it is responding “to huge demand” for the outfit.

Designer Siobhan Dillon says she “thought it would be cool to try and make the shirt as football-oriented as possible.” Dillon will initially make 50 of the tops, to be sold for around $500 each.

So, you'd therefore happily do Pat Butcher, Susan Boyle and Queen Elizabeth as well then?

Cagliari President Massimo Cellino In London To Buy West Ham - Report

Image

The Rossoblu supremo is supposedly on the verge of acquiring the English club...

It has been reported that Cagliari president Massimo Cellini has been spotted in London and is there to purchase Premier League side West Ham, according to tuttomercatoweb.

The Isolani patron has traveled to England, accompanied by a lawyer, in hopes of buying the Hammers, who have been struggling on and off the pitch.

Recently, West Ham coach Gianfranco Zola, a former Cagliari hero, revealed that he may be forced to sell some of the club's star players due to their financial situation during the winter transfer market.

The report indicated that Cellino's advances to buy the club are expected to be successful and more developments will occur in near future.

WANNABE West Ham owner Massimo Cellino is a convicted fraudster.

That means the controversial millionaire may not be allowed to take over the club as he would fall foul of the Premier League's 'fit and proper person' test.

It is the latest amazing twist in the ongoing saga surrounding the sale of the cash-strapped East End outfit.

The shock revelations come just 24 hours after Italian Cellino - president of Upton Park boss Gianfranco Zola's old club Cagliari - emerged as a fourth potential buyer for hard-up Hammers.

Patty(TINH) can reveal Cellino, who hopes to get the club for a knockdown £40million, has twice had suspended jail sentences for deception.

In 1996, he spent eight days in custody after being arrested on suspicion of deceiving the EU and the Italian Ministry for Agriculture out of £7.5m.

The Miami-based businessman was convicted of the offence in 2000 and given a 14-month suspended sentence.

And, in 2001, Cellino got a 15-month suspended sentence for false accounting at the Serie A club he controls.

His convictions almost certainly mean he would fail the Premier League's fit and proper person test for takeovers. The League has strict rules banning dishonest directors - Section D2, Appendix 12 of the PL rule book states a director will be barred if:

He has a conviction (not a spent conviction) imposed by a court of the UK or a competent court of foreign jurisdiction in respect of which an unsuspended sentence of at least 12 months imprisonment was imposed.

In respect of any offence involving any act which would reasonably be considered to be dishonest (and, for the avoidance of doubt, irrespective of the actual sentence imposed).

Two convictions of fraud - one involving the books of a football club - MUST be considered an "act which would reasonably be considered to be dishonest".

Admittedly, Cellino's first offence was non-football related.

In 1996, Cellino - as chief executive and shareholder of his then grains company SEM Molini Sardi - was kept in custody accused of a £7.5m trading fraud against the European Union and the Italian Ministry for Agriculture.

He declared his stocked amounts of durum wheat were smaller than the actual quantity deposited in the company's granaries to gain the pay-out.

Cellino plea-bargained a reduced and suspended 14-month sentence.

Then, in April 2001, Cellino - as chairman of Cagliari - was sentenced to a 15-month suspended jail term for having falsified the club's balance sheets for the 1992-93 season.

And only last month Cellino, 54, was ordered to appear in court to give evidence in a football corruption trial involving referees and ex-officials of top Serie A sides.

Cellino's shady past has finally caught up with him and scuppered his bid to buy West Ham.

Which may be just as well as he has proved a ruthless owner in Sardinia, having 28 managers in 18 years at Cagliari.
